Sweet Lily watched and waited for five months as other dogs got adopted from the Salem Animal Rescue League. A big bully breed with a loving personality and a playful nature, Lily quickly became a staff favorite at SARL. Unfortunately, big dogs — especially bully breeds like American Bulldogs, American Staffordshire Terriers, and American Pit Bull Terriers — can be difficult to adopt due to outdated views on breed temperament and discerning homeowner’s insurance policies. Still, we knew that the right adopter would eventually come along for Lily. We just had to wait.
On January 15th, 2024, that’s exactly what happened!
Lily’s new mom and dad are big bully breed and rescue fans who fell in love with Lily. Sadly, they lost their 15-year-old pitta (that looked a lot like Lily) in December. Mom, who works from home, really missed having her bestie to keep her company.
Their son saw Lily’s photo on the SARL website, and as soon as they saw how long she had been with us, they knew they had to meet her. As soon as they met, there was an instant connection, and it was immediately clear that these were her people — they had seen just how great she is in the same way the SARL staff had for the last five months! We were thrilled, and grateful to everyone who shared Lily’s social media posts, helping get the word out about her story.
At SARL, we believe there’s a perfect person for every animal, and Lily’s family came along at just the right time!
We house and adopt out a variety of dogs and cats just like Lily every day. If you’re looking for your next cat or dog companion in Southern New Hampshire, please take a look at our current available adoptions and inquire about an animal. We’d love to meet with you to see if we can make a connection. Who knows, maybe we have your next bestie too?
